One or two of the ex-dubs on this message board are borderline loony tunes, the kind of people that are attracted to cults are not going to just suddenly become normal on leaving a cult. As for born ins, not surprisingly many of them have had very strange upbringings & have grown up to become confused & angry people. Many of them are being shunned by family & friends, quite a few have been sexually abused in the past, & most feel that they have wasted much of their lives in the cult & have missed out on a lot of opportunities in life, they are rightfully bitter about it. Also, many of those who leave feel regret for recruiting others into the cult & are desperately trying to get them out, often in vain.

Unimpressed by the local Ex-JW's
by bohm ini come from a small crappy country in northern europe.
im sad to say that among the resident 'vocal' ex-jws there is a good deal who have had visits from god (thats a bad sign in my book), who think satanists run the watchtower, who think there are 'hidden codes' in the images in the wt, who believe the meps system can translate between all kinds of languages and this somehow feed to a conspiracy theory, who think accusations of pedophelia and painting all jw elders as borderline pedophiles (or at least some who hide pedophelia) is remotely close to the truth.
many of them seem to belong to small cultish religious organizations.

In one of their wonderful, illustrated, 192 page masterpieces, they made the claim that since certain acts, such as oral sex & anal sex, are commonly carried out by homosexuals, it would therefore would be wrong for heterosexuals to engage in those acts since they would be imitating homosexuals.
It's a pretty straightforward fallacy of equivocaton. Homosexuality is condemned in the bible, homosexuals have oral sex & anal sex, therefore oral sex & anal sex are wrong.

Where has your spiritual journey lead you?
by thraxer68 injust curious, to those of you who have left the "truth", where has your spiritual journey lead you?
have you found another religion?
are you not really a religious person?

My spiritual journey has lead me doubt the existence of the spirit completely. I'm waiting for someone to demonstrate that it exists before i continue with it.

I don't believe in any of the man-made ideas of God that i have come across. And i don't think it would be appropiate to refer to 'a higher power' as God. To ants, we are a much higher power, but God's we are not.
The universe may have been created by an intelligence, i don't know, i doubt it, but even if it were, i think it's fair to say this intelligence would be very unlikely to resemble any concept of God which any human has yet invented.
I tend to take a reductionist viewpoint on most things, & i think with that kind of reasoning, it's very hard to find God in abstract concepts such as love. Since love is an abstract emergence of a chemical process (at least that's what my reductionist mentality tells me), the idea that a God-like being could be found anywhere in any of that seems illogical to me, but who knows.
For now i'm an atheist.

Ask them to explain how thankful they are to the WTS for letting them know that they're not allowed to have oral sex.

Does anyone else find the whole Jah V Satan universal issue absurd?
by Aussie Oz inwhen i was 'in', that of course was a big thing, and i well knew all the scriptures and resonings behind it.. not long ago i saw a u tube video that took me into deepest space from the hymalian mountains and back in again.
what struck me was the shear immensity of just our own universe, let alone the rest of the known one.
i realized how tiny tiny nothing this little planet is.

Is there any biblical basis at all for the issue of universal sovereignty? I've often wondered about this, is it explicitly spoken about? Or is it merely implied? Someone please tell me!

Antitypes / Greater fulfillments - Where does this concept come from? Is there a biblical basis for it?
by Psychotic Parrot ini've been discussing this recently with my dub family & would like some more information on the subject as i'm not all that well informed on it at present.
i'm not a believer in the divinity of the bible, but i do respect those who feel that bible helps them in their lives.
however, those who claim that certain ancient prophecies will have a greater / larger fulfillment in modern times puzzle me.

I'm not a believer in the divinity of the bible, but i do respect those who feel that bible helps them in their lives. However, those who claim that certain ancient prophecies will have a greater / larger fulfillment in modern times puzzle me. What basis for this belief do they have? Is it a biblically sound concept?
Believers in certain groups, like the dubs for example, will often claim that they are correct because they "follow the bible". But is the concept of antitypes occuring centuries after the bible was written mentioned or even implied in the bible? I realise that many of the events in the OT for example had so called antitypical fulfillments in the NT, like Jesus being an antitype of Moses & David, but what basis is there for the belief that events in the bible will have antitypical fulfullments in our day? Is there any reason to believe that the words in Matthew 24, Daniel & Revelation (among others) were directed at both those alive then AND those alive now or in the future? It would good if someone like Leolaila could respond to this, but input from anyone will be appreciated.
Thanks

I couldn't tell you the specific articles, but what you'll find is that they change their mind from one to the other & thus it's impossible to really keep up with what they think. When it comes to marriage, their views over the last 50 years have ranged from "we don't know" to "there will be marriage" to "there will be no marriage", so the answer is, they don't have a clue what they're talking about.
